Fortune Friday

Hi all,

What a week! – More than 70 inches of snow fell last weekend and it was a wild ride around here! In addition to the heavy wet snow, we had lightning and ridgetop winds of 106 mph.

Any time we receive this much snow in such a short period of time it’s a challenge – from digging out lifts and parking lots to making the mountain safe with avalanche mitigation. In this case, this work was complicated by major road closures and power outages sustained over several days. These challenges are both invigorating and galvanizing – I am proud as always of how the Heavenly team came together in what truly was an “all hands on-deck" effort to get re-opened. It takes a LOT of hard work and incredible collaboration from everyone at the resort to get open after a weather event like this and I thank you for your patience.

From an operations standpoint, here’s where we are now:

  • All upper mountain lifts are back open, including the connection between the California and Nevada sides of the mountain.
  • We have opened Olympic and Mott Canyon lifts and terrain including Killebrew Canyon.
  • The Boulder base area will open tomorrow along with Galaxy Lift and terrain.
  • We are nearing closer to the completion of North Bowl – expected by Monday. This project is going through its final inspections and testing this weekend. I was able to ride this lift on Thursday and it’s amazing! We are all really excited about this lift project coming to the finish line. I can’t wait for you to ride it as well!

It feels great to return to normal operations after a hectic week and feels even better being so close to getting this mountain 100% open.

Thank you again for your patience and support through this wild storm – and if you were able to make it up here, I hope you had a blast. This season has already been shaping up to be a special one.

See you soon,

Tom
